After an official announcement at the beginning of the year and the numerous leaks, rumors, and official teasers that followed, the OnePlus 2 was released last week as a successor to 2014’s “flagship killer”. Whether the new model will have the same impact on the market as the original one remains to be settled (pun intended), but one thing the two smartphones have in common is the way they are delivered to the masses.

Yes, unfortunately, the OnePlus 2 is available for purchase around the world on an invite-based system, but luckily for prospective customers residing in China this is not an issue. Needless to say, the OnePlus 2 can be purchased in the company’s homeland directly from the official OnePlus website, without having to queue up for an invite.

This kind of gives us (and the manufacturer) the opportunity to see how the OnePlus 2 could have performed should it have been released in a more conventional way everywhere around the world. Needless to say, if the Chinese market is the benchmark to follow then the OP2 could have become one of the fastest-selling smartphones ever. More details right after the break.

Today, OnePlus revealed the OnePlus 2’s market performance in China after the first week (or rather its first minute) of availability. Impressively enough, the company managed to sell a whopping 30K units through its online store in China in just 64 seconds after release.

With these figures in mind it’s not difficult to see why OnePlus decided to go for an invite system for the sequel: the company simply cannot keep up with the high demand. Fortunately, OnePlus also added that the production capacity is constantly on the rise, so more terminals will be available for purchase soon. Those who reside in China will have a new window of opportunity to purchase the OP2 starting August 11, but I guess it’s safe to assume that the second batch will not last for long either.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as the story develops, but until then, what’s your take on the OnePlus 2? Are you already queued up for your purchase or has the dreaded delivery system turned you off?
