We reported a while back that the Asus Transformer 2 release date should slowly but surely be closing in. However, nothing is set in stone or official…yet. In order to give you fine folks a heads up, I’ll try to go over some of the rumored release dates and specs of the upcoming Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2 Android tablet. Asus already said that they have no intention of changing the pricing on their upcoming tablet despite the Amazon Kindle Fire coming out with an incredible low price tag – $199. So let’s get started, shall we?
Asus’ chairman, Jonney Shih, has recently confirmed in Hong Kong that Asus Transformer 2 (or Prime how he called it) will be sporting the latest NVIDIA has to offer in terms of mobile processors. As such, you’ll be getting the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor which is rumored to be clocked at 1.3GHz per core. That should put the tablet way ahead of what the competition is offering. Not only that, the Transformer 2 is also coming with either 16 or 32GB of storage and a micro SD card slot. The display is rumored to be at the 10.1 inch mark and all in all, this is shaping up to be one killer tablet.
As far as the Prime’s OS is concerned it seems like the Kal-El powered tablet will not run on Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. However, it that will indeed happen, we’re sure that the update will come rather sooner than later.
Check out some leaked Asus Transformer 2 Prime pics that are showing both the tablet and the keyboard dock.

Asus Transformer 2 – Release Date, Specs (Overview)
If up to this point the tablet market was pretty still, with most high end Android tablets having similar specs, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2 is here to change that and kick it up a notch. LambdaTek Shop is pricing the 32GB version of the tablet at 448.21 GBP + VAT, shaping up to a pretty hefty 537.85GBP. Jerry Shen, the CEO of Asus said that the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2 will be shipping for $499 in the US, making it one hell of a competitive tablet.
Sure the Amazon Kindle Fire might be $300 cheaper, yet the fact remains that this comes with a quad-core processor and if we’re lucky enough to be able to use the first Transformer’s keyboard with this version of the tablet, Asus might’ve struck on gold (or oil, whichever you prefer
).
Asus Transformer 2 Release Date
The release date of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2 is scheduled for this quarter. However, the latest rumors were claiming that November 7 is the date but Jonney Shih has announced that the tablet will be announced on November 9th (let’s hope that Asus will also reveal a release date) so this pretty much shoots down the aforementioned rumors.
FYI: There is a leaked doc that shows a possible November 9th Asus Transformer 2 Prime release date. Seeing that’s almost impossible for the Prime to be announced and then released in stores the same day we must conclude that the leak is probably fake (or old).
However, earlier this year we were lead to believe (by Asus, who else ?) that the tablet will also run on Windows 8 and that it will be released in 2012.
Whatever the case might be, we’re definitely closing in on the date Asus said that the tablet will become available, so just keep your eyes peeled and we’ll keep you posted. Stay tuned!
