Asus Transformer Pad 300 Release Date Approaching ?

by Catalin on April 15, 2012

The Asus Transformer Pad 300 leaked out a couple of months ago, around the time Mobile World Congress was about to start. Since then we did not hear that much of this Asus Transformer Prime sequel (there is a second one, more attractive specs-wise – the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity 700), but I had my concerns regarding its future. Now according to some more information, the Asus Transformer Pad 300 release is approaching!

The Transformer Pad 300 appeared a while ago on a couple of retailer websites. For example in France, the 32 GB variant of the Asus Transformer Pad 300 shows a hefty price tag of 499 Euros (that’s roughly $650). That is rather expensive for a tablet that is mostly a dumbed-down rehash of the Transformer Prime.

Despite hoping for a lower price tag, the tablet does come with a premium one, offering “not-so-premium” features. In any case, according to The Verge, the US retailer J&R is prepping the 16 GB variant of the Transformer Pad 300 for $379.

For this amount of money you will get a 10.1-inch Android tablet, the Tegra 3 system on a chip, an 8 megapixel main camera with F2.2 aperture and 5-element lens. This is coupled with a 1.2 megapixel front camera. Throw 1 GB of RAM on top and you have a good device, but as I kept asking in the past few articles – why?

What does this tablet bring to the table that the Asus Transformer Prime has not already brought? What can it do that we would spend the extra cash for it? With the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity closing in quickly, I would go as far as suggesting you keep your cash and get that one.

[EDITOR - Second Opinion] – Actually if you find the Transformer Prime too pricey and you’re willing to compromise (plastic instead of aluminum, dumbed-down display) the existence of this tablet makes sense as it seems that the Transformer Pad 300 will be about $100 cheaper than the Prime. Infinity 700 on the other hand will probably be more expensive. [End of Second Opinion]

That is just me and I might be very wrong. Make sure to stay tuned for more as we will keep you up to date on this one folks!

Thanks PocketNow for sharing the clues that the Asus Transformer Pad 300 release date is closing in.
