The ASUS ZenFone 2 was unveiled earlier this month, but despite the fact that the handset in question is very much fresh out the oven, questions about the ZenFone 3 already emerged and ASUS’ CEO Jerry Shen already disclosed to the Chinese press some of the company’s plans for the very next flagship in the series.
More specifically, it seems that ASUS is gearing up for the eventual adoption of fingerprint recognition technology for its flagship smartphone. When will ASUS release the first ZenFone with a fingerprint recognition sensor in tow? Find out right after the break.
ASUS ZenFone 3 to Feature a Fingerprint Recognition Sensor
Last week, ASUS’ chief executive Jerry Shen told the Chinese press that when the company’s ZenFone 3 will be released, it will feature a fingerprint recognition sensor. That’s obviously good news for fans of the brand, but on the other hand this relatively large period of time between now and the first ZenFone to feature a fingerprint scanner is rather off putting.
On the bright side, ASUS also revealed that the fingerprint recognition technology could make its way onto an ASUS smartphone as early as the second half of 2015, when a ZenFone 2 “facelift” might get released.
So to wrap things up, ASUS could release a ZenFone 2 refresh with a fingerprint sensor in tow sometime in the second half of 2015, while a ZenFone 3 is expected to hit the shelves in 2016, boasting the same kind of biometric scanning technology.
So what do you make of this? What’s your opinion about the current ZenFone 2, and do you think a fingerprint scanner could have made the smartphone a much more attractive device than it is?
