BlackBerry Working On A New PlayBook (Powered By BlackBerry 10)?
2013 is a comeback year for RIM – the company changed its moniker to BlackBerry, released a new operating system and two brand new smartphones boasting the BB10 OS – the full touchscreen BlackBerry Z10, and for the old-school BlackBerry enthusiasts, the QWERTY-ed BlackBerry Q10.
But will the Canadians also deliver a new BlackBerry Playbook this year? Well, the opinions on this subject are divided, as BB’s CEO and Director of Product Management recently made contradictory statements. Head below the break and we’ll reveal what BlackBerry has (or rather had) to say on the matter.
BlackBerry PlayBook with BlackBerry 10 – What We Know So Far
While BlackBerry’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, said that his company is not planning on releasing another PlayBook, at least not until it’s able to make more than “just another tablet”, the Director of Project Management had a totally different story to tell.
Mike Al Mefleh made a statement for the Dubai press saying that BlackBerry has a “very clear road map” and that the Canadian company is going to launch six new devices in 2013 (suggesting the reason behind BlackBerry Z10’s no-show at Sprint is accurate) as well as an additional PlayBook.
Although Al Mefleh didn’t confirm the release date for the tablet (nor for the other six new devices for that matter) other sources suggest that the gadget could be launched as soon as the end of the second quarter.
However, before the alleged release date of a new tablet, the current PlayBook will join the BlackBerry 10 OS party in the upcoming future.
What about you, would you buy a BlackBerry 10 PlayBook, or you’d rather spend your money on a different tablet?
