iPhone 5 vs BlackBerry Z10 – Does The Challenger Rise Up To The Occasion ?
It’s high time to once again compare the BlackBerry Z10 with another big player out there, and if we’ve already talked a bit about how the Z10 compares with the Samsung Galaxy S3, this time around we’re going to see if it has what it takes in order to compete with the iPhone 5.
That being said, if you’re looking forward to buying a brand new smartphone that’s not powered by Android, this should interest you. Join us after the break for more.
BlackBerry z10 vs iPhone 5
Unlike when we’ve compared the Z10 with the Galaxy S3, this time around we can see right off the bat that the BlackBerry device shares many similarities with the iPhone 5 in terms of design. Both gadgets feature straight lines, sharp edges and round corners, but the “feel” differs. For starters, the iPhone 5 arrives with a brushed aluminum back panel and a shiny rim surrounding the handset, whereas the Z10 comes with a plastic back panel covered in soft touch material.
There are other differences in terms of basic design choices, mainly the fact that the Apple flagship comes with unibody design and a non-removable battery, whereas the BB Z10 offers the possibility of removing the back panel and switching the battery, as well as expanding the internal storage via microSD. On the flip side, in terms of battery life, the Z10 is not the best contender out there, so a removable battery is pretty much a “must have” feature.
Another huge difference between the Z10 and the iPhone 5 is the OS and the ecosystem. Although the BlackBerry 10 OS is a brand new platform and comes with a few bugs that should be squashed in the future, it does look and feel nicer than iOS 6 which offers a rather boring and restrictive experience. The gesture navigation on the Z10 is also quite unique, but the user interface does have a slightly steeper learning curve. Nonetheless, at least in this regard, the BlackBerry Z10 takes the win.
On the other side, the BlackBerry ecosystem is not nearly as rich as Apple’s alternative so there’s no question about which one takes the cake. However we do have to keep in mind that the Z10 and the BlackBerry ecosystem are very fresh, so it should improve over time.
There are other aspects to consider, such as the fact that the camera on the Z10 is not the best out there, whereas the rear shooter on the iPhone 5 is one of the best, so if a good camera is your biggest concern when it comes to buying a new gadget, the iPhone 5 is the better choice.
