There’s no mystery surrounding the Google Nexus 7 anymore and we’ve already talked about its strong points on many occasions. Besides the affordable price, the Nexus 7 has yet another advantage over the other 7 inch tablets currently on the market and I’m evidently talking about the fact that it comes with Google’s latest Android iteration, Jelly Bean.
However nothing lasts forever and it looks like one strong Nexus 7 competitor might emerge in the near future. This particular contender comes from Acer and is dubbed the Iconia Tab A110. This particular device has been announced back in June but at that time it was said that it will come with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, and since back then the Nexus 7 was stealing the spotlight, people haven’t paid much attention to Acer’s tablet. Nevertheless, the Iconia A110 might have a few surprises in store for us.

Acer Iconia Tab A110 – Jelly Bean Out Of The Box ?
New renders depicting the Iconia Tab A110 have surfaced at the online retailer eBuyer and judging by these latest images we can safely speculate that the upcoming Iconia might hit the market with Jelly Bean out of the box, contrary to what it was believed so far.
Evidently this makes the A110 a much more interesting tablet and a more worthy Nexus 7 competitor. Will it be a better choice than Google’s device though? It remains to be seen but on at least in theory both tablets appear to have their pros and cons over the other.
First of all, the A110 comes with a 7 inch screen as the Nexus 7 but it boasts a lower resolution of 1024 x 600 and a lower pixel density of 170 ppi. It also comes with a smaller 3420 mAh battery whereas the Nexus packs a 4325 mAh. Other than that, both tablets share a fair number of traits like the Tegra 3 processor and the same amount of RAM.
At first it seems like the Nexus is the clear winner, but the thing is Acer’s tablet has its own advantages over Google’s device, including the ability to expand the storage via microSD and the fact that it comes with more ports than the Nexus 7.
On the other hand, despite the fact that the Acer might hit the shelves with Jelly Bean out of the box, the Nexus 7 is sure to receive future updates in a timely manner.
Another thing that we should mention about the Iconia is the fact that initial reports were indicating that it will sport a 5 MP camera on the back, but in these rendered pictures we can’t really find one, except for the 2 MP camera on the front.

Acer Iconia A110 Release Date and Price
Now that we’ve got the specs out of the way we should also take a look at the price. As mentioned above the Nexus 7 has a great advantage because it comes at an affordable price. So how about the Acer Iconia? Well, the 16 GB version is expected to hit the UK market at the price of £179.99 so that’s pretty close to what the Nexus offers.
As far as its release date goes reports indicate that the Acer Iconia A110 will be available for purchase in October. So which one would you rather choose? Drop us a line and let us know.
