Google Nexus 7 Release Date: Damn Close Or Not Really ?

by Mihai on July 13, 2012

Quite recently we’ve explored the possibility that those who pre-ordered the Google Nexus 7 from Staples before July 10th might receive the tablet between July 12th and July 17th.

Shortly after that it appeared that the launch of the device might be even closer than the initial rumors were indicating, because Office Depot joined the party and, according to a leaked document, its customers were going to be able to grab the highly anticipated Nexus 7 much sooner than predicted. Will this be the case? Join us after the break and learn the details.

Despite the fact that the Play store shows a shipping schedule of “1-2 weeks” for the Google Nexus 7, Office Depot might be able to deliver the tablet sooner than that, somehow.

Judging by the screen above we can see that Office Depot was expecting to have the Google Nexus 7 in 341 of their stores by July 12.

Pre-orders are now available on their website, boasting an estimated delivery of 3-5 business days. Furthermore, the leaked document goes hand in hand with the information on their website because, at least for the moment, they will be able to retail only the 16 GB variant of the device, for the usual price of $249.99.

We don’t know if Office Depot has already started to ship the pre-orders but one thing is for certain: they are not allowed to SELL the Google Nexus 7. Why is that? We don’t really know but we have a feeling that Google had a role to play in this situation. Check the new leaked document, below.

That’s pretty much there is to it. We’ll have to wait and see how the story develops, but if you head down to Office Depot and pre-order the Google Nexus 7 feel free to drop us a line and let us know when your brand new tablet has been delivered to you.

As for what to expect from the device spec-wise (in case you are somehow unaware of its specs and amazing value) the Nexus 7 boasts a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB -or in this particular case- 16 GB of internal storage, a 7-inch display bearing a resolution of 1280 x 800 and unfortunately, no camera on the back. Hey, it can’t be perfect.

That’s about it, we’ll keep you posted.

Thanks Droid Life for the heads-up regarding the Google Nexus 7 release date.
