With each passing day the Google Nexus 7 gets closer and closer to its release date, the only thing that’s bothering us being the fact that there is no launch date set in stone so far. Google remains certain that their first tablet will hit the market sometime mid-July, but that’s pretty much it.

However, it appears that retailers already have the tablet in their stock, but the unfortunate part is that Google prevents them from selling it right now. The exact reason behind this decision remains unknown, but the company claims that the Nexus 7 is “still on track” for its mid-July release date.

The latest story surrounding the Nexus 7 availability comes from Manhattan NYC, where the retailer Adorama appeared to have gotten its hands on 30 units of Google Nexus tablets. Being in their vicinity, the guys over at The Verge managed to take a look at the Nexus 7 right from the Adorama shelves, but despite the fact that the gadget went on sale for a brief period of time, it seems like Google pulled the plug and asked retailers, including Adorama, not to sell the tablet just yet.
To summarize things up, after Google has contacted the retailer located in Manhattan the Adorama staff communicated to some of the customers that the Nexus 7 tablet will be available for purchase once again starting with Sunday (if you have some news about how this turned out, please let us and everybody know in the comments section).
On the other side of the pond, the UK retailer Ebuyer has pulled the plug as well and is now showing the device only in the pre-order section, with the expected availability of the 16 GB version being set for July 19th.
That’s pretty much it for now. The Nexus 7 is here, but not quite. It’s right under our noses but we can’t reach it, which makes us be both excited and frustrated about it. All we can do at this point is to wait for the story to unfold, and perhaps by the end of next week the Nexus 7 will pop-up in retail stores.
