Back in August we got word that HTC might be working on a 5-inch behemoth that will be powered by a quad-ore Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, and sure enough, rumors continued to pop-up during the past few months. We reached the conclusion that this rumored 1080p smartphone will be dubbed the HTC Droid Incredible X and that Verizon will eventually get a hold on it in the near future, which made us very happy campers.
More recent rumors were hinting towards a November release for this mysterious device, but whether or not that’s the case, if you’ve kept your eyes on the Droid Incredible X during this entire time, you’re in for a treat, as HTC has just officially announced the Japanese version of the handset. More details below.
HTC Droid Incredible X / Google Nexus 5 = HTC J Butterfly
Alright folks, let’s get started. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has just unveiled the HTC J Butterfly in Japan, with a list of specs, press shots and all that good stuff. As you can see in the pictures above and below, the Butterfly looks an awful lot like the device we’ve seen in a previously leaked picture, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
Spec-wise, the HTC J Butterfly doesn’t let down and comes with a 5 inch Super LCD 3 1080p display packing a jaw-dropping pixel density of 440ppi, a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core CPU alongside LTE connectivity, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, an 8 MP rear-facing camera coupled with a 2.1 MP front-facing sensor and a meaty 2020 mAh battery.
The Butterfly also arrives with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and all these amazing specs are packed in a 9.1 mm profile that weights 140 grams. Details about availability after the break.
HTC J Butterfly Release Date
Now, we’ve mentioned the Incredible X and the Google Nexus 5 in this article a few times already, so you may wonder what’s up with that? Well, Droid Incredible X is obviously expected to be the same smartphone as the J Butterfly, save the fact that it will arrive in the US with Verizon bands and branding.
The Google Nexus 5 on the other hand, is a rumored Nexus device that’s allegedly built upon the foundation of the 5-incher, so basically the release of the J Butterfly affects the Nexus 5, as well as the Incredible X.
To keep the long story short, HTC appears to have plans on launching the J in Japan sometime in December, where it will be available in white, black and red. With that in mind, both the Incredible X and the Nexus 5 might be a bit further away from us than initially expected, but nevertheless we’re hoping that we’ll get some official announcements concerning the US release of at least one of the two gadgets by the end of the year.
Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime feel free to drop us a line and share your opinion concerning this 5-inch beast of a smartphone. Would you be interested in buying one? It clearly has very few flaws (if any) and it even comes with expandable storage and an outstanding design so, we think it might be a hit already.
Thanks Droid Life for the head-up regarding the HTC J Butterfly announcement.
