Remember when, towards the end of April, we brought you news that HTC is working on a new handset from its Butterfly series that will be the the company’s most powerful and feature packed smartphone of the year? Or at least of the first half of 2015?

Well, even though the smartphone isn’t called HTC Butterfly 3 like we assumed back then, it has just been announced in Japan under the HTC J Butterfly HTV31 (not to be confused with the Snapdragon S4 Pro powered HTC J Butterfly HTL21 from a few years back).

Take a look and join us after the break for the rest of the story.

Like we said last time we talked about it, the new HTC J Butterfly (which will be released sometime this summer, in Japan, at KDDI) brings together the best features of the recently announced HTC One M9 and One M9+ and ads waterproof and dustproof capabilities on top (so no metal uni-body, in classic HTC Butterfly fashion).

Here is the list of specs:

  • Snapdragon 810
  • 5.2-inch WQHD Display (1440×2560)
  • 20.2 MP DUO camera (which supports 4K movie recording)
  • 13MP front facing shooter
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 2700mAh battery
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • microSDXC support (up to 200GB)

This is definitely the best/powerful smartphone HTC has ever released. Do you think the company should have made this available worldwide? Let us know in the comments section.
