Ice Cream Sandwich For Motorola Droid RAZR, MAXX: The Final Testing Phase (Android 4 ICS)

by Mihai Matei on June 23, 2012

Once again we’re turning our attention towards the Motorola Droid RAZR / RAZR MAXX and the long-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Motorola Droid RAZR, MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4 ICS)

As you may recall, not long ago a rumor surfaced concerning the update and, long story short, if the rumors were to be correct the RAZR should’ve received the Android 4 update on June 12. Obviously this wasn’t the case and to make things even worse, Verizon recently commented on their Twitter page that they never stated a definitive release date for the update, and that they were not aware the manufacturer has ever stated a release date, June or otherwise. So it appears to be a case where the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, but I tend to doubt it.

Despite all that, things appear to move in the right direction and the good news is, there’s still hope yet for the Android 4 on the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX.

As it turns out, a few days ago invites have been sent for a soak test that supposedly started on June 22. This in itself doesn’t prove that the soak test is for an ICS build, however a new Android 4 build 6.16.221 leaked not long ago and that led us to believe that the soak test might very well be intended for this build.

Furthermore, word around the campfire is that once the soak test ends within a few days, the tested software update will hit the waves starting with June 27, which would correspond with initial reports that Motorola intends on launching the Motorola Droid RAZR, MAXX ICS update by the end of Q2.

Even more promising, Verizon has recently published the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich support docs so this means you can expect your update notification to arrive anytime soon. However, usually the first ones hit are those belonging to soak test groups so, probably, the roll-out will be at first very limited.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more concerning the update. Stay tuned!

Thanks Droid Life for the heads-up regarding the Ice Cream Sandwich update for Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX.
