Way back in November we were waiting to see some signs that the Cupertino based company was working on an update for iOS 5.0.1. Back then, people were still looking around to see when we would be getting a taste of iOS 5.0.2, however, the company managed to surprise everyone by pushing out iOS version 5.1 beta 1. This came as a small shock (the fact that we would get to see such a big update so quickly) but things have been evolving pretty steadily since then.
However, thanks to a recent small leak we might have an idea when the Apple iOS 5.1 will see the light of day. And the fact that it might be on the same day when the iPad 3 release date is scheduled makes it even cooler!
After iOS 5.1 beta 2 gave some more usefulness to Photo Stream by enabling users to remove individual images, iOS 5.1 beta 3 came and managed to grab some more attention by bringing the 3G toggle.
Of course, there have been hiccups with the updates as the intentionally placed fake names for devices in order to mask their upcoming hardware changes did managed to piss off some folks. However, once we got over all the issues, we’ve gotten the chance to get some information via Apple’s iphonediags.apple.com server.
iPad 3 Release Date: To Coincide with Apple OS 5.1 Launch?
Here a directory was found which was named “CarrierBundles-09Mar2012-Update”. This might indicate that the 9th of March is the release date of iOS 5.1 and considering the rumors regarding the iPad 3 release date which seem to point to March, we might end up with both the iOS 5.1 and the iPad 3 release date set for the 9th of March (or shortly after, as 9th of March might be the day when the update will be distributed to the carriers).
Could we be lucky enough to get both new hardware and new software to play around with in roughly half a month? I think we shall have to wait just a little bit longer and maybe get some more information before jumping to conclusions.
The fact remains that evidence for the iPad 3 release date has been popping up left and right and now with the iOS 5.1 release date being rumored around the same time frame, it’s only logical to assume the above line.
iPad 3 Release Date
As far as the March iPad 3 release date rumors go, general consensus is that the tablet will be launched only after March 7th. Some recent Amazon leaks also point to a March iPad 3 launch, the only difference being the fact that, according to the leaked manual, the release is scheduled for the 29th of March.
