South Korea’s top smartphone makers, LG and Samsung, are expected to unveil their latest highly anticipated flagship phones at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona.
Unlike in previous years when LG seemed to avoid direct competition with Samsung by releasing its G flagships a few weeks after the Galaxy counterparts, this year LG will reportedly be ready to take on Samsung head-on.
More details right after the break.

LG G5 To Challenge The Samsung Galaxy S7 At Launch?
As some of you might now, earlier this week, LG sent out press invites for an unveiling event that will take place at MWC in Barcelona, on the 21st of February. Although the aforementioned press invites made no mention of the LG G5, an unnamed LG Electronics executive cited by KoreaTimes today claims that LG intends to unveil its new flagship phone one day ahead of MWC, or indeed, on February 21st.
The executive added that although LG’s previous flagship phones have been pushed back “months after the release” of Samsung’s premium lineup, in 2016 this will no longer be the case, as “LG Electronics is ready to take on Samsung”.
Judging by the leaks and rumors so far, the executive’s claims aren’t at all far-fetched. The LG G5 is expected to pack a 5.6-inch 1440 x 2560 display with a pixel density of 525 pixels per inch and Gorilla Glass 4 on top, a Snapdragon 820 SoC, which includes an Adreno 530 graphics chip, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of on-board storage expandable via microSD.
The previous LG G handsets have also been praised for pushing the limits in the camera department, and we expect no less from the LG G5. The handset is rumored to feature a 20 MP primary camera with a 1/2” sensor, laser autofocus and optical image stabilization, as well as an 8 MP front-facing shooter.
We’ll keep you posted if more details emerge ahead of MWC. Until then, which one of these two highly anticipated flagships do you root for? Is it the LG G5, or the Samsung Galaxy S7? Let us know in the comment section.
