One of the big issues that still plagues the Android platform stems from the way manufacturers and carriers are treating the update process (some like to call it ‘fragmentation’). We have been faced with many delays simply because of the wide variety of devices out on the market and because a lot of carriers are ‘customizing’ the international model of a certain smartphone (especially in the US and we hope this behavior will soon stop). But back to the matter at hand, we have some good news: the LG Optimus Black, Optimus 2X, Optimus 3D and LG Prada are on the winning side of things as LG Singapore confirmed the fact that the aforementioned smartphones will get updated to Android 4 ICS.

Note that the confirmation came from a “local” office and not LG Global, so we are still waiting for HQ’s word in this regard. We heard news surrounding the LG Optimus LTE and 2X Ice Cream Sandwich update back in January, but things haven’t been moving along since then. On the other hand, the LG Prada 3.0 just recently started getting the update to Android 4 ICS in a few markets.

LG Optimus Black, 2X, 3D and Prada Ice Cream Sandwich Confirmed By LG Singapore (Android 4 ICS)
Earlier this month we even heard that the LG Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich update might not happen altogether despite LG’s earlier statement. However, LG Optimus 2X owners are still hoping as another local branch of the manufacturer has confirmed that ICS will soon head towards this device.
One handset that we really didn’t expect to receive ICS is LG Optimus Black. To everyone’s surprise, someone took a snapshot of a new Black retail box that had a huge Android 4 announcement plastered across. At the time I was suspicious, and I think that would be anyone’s reaction, but it seems that it wasn’t just a marketing move after all.
If you are the owner of an LG Optimus Black, 2X, 3D or Prada then this should be a great piece of news for you. However, I do recommend you stay cautious about it since this was confirmed only for Singapore and we are still waiting for the word from LG Global.
