March iPad 3 Release Date to Bring a Much More Capable Retina Display ?

by bogdan on February 19, 2012

Hate it or love it, the iPad is responsible for bringing tablets to the mainstream and even though i personally prefer Android powered devices (both tablet and smartphones) I’ve always recognized Apple’s merit in pushing the industry forward. After the OG tablet, the iPad 2 has stepped it up a bit (it was more of an evolution then a revolution) and it’s easy to understand why almost everybody is really anxious regarding the iPad 3 (at least we hope it’s iPad 3 and not 2S or something like that).

Well, thanks to some recent developments, we can now tackle a question that has been on our minds ever since the first rumors about the iPad 3 specs have surfaced – what display technology will Apple’s tablet come with?

The iPad 3 was said to finally be carrying a Retina Display (we expected iPad 2 to have one but i guess it’s better late than never) which could offer a 2048 x 1536 resolution, even though it was only 9.7-inches, the same as the iPad 2 display, which offers a 1024 x 768 resolution.

However, we couldn’t know for sure if the rumored March iPad 3 release date will bring four times as much pixels than the current version. Until now, that is, because the guys over at MacRumors have somehow got their hands on an iPad 3 display (or at least they claim they did) and put it to the test.

Though they didn’t manage to do any real tests (with the display powered up – yeah they had just the display not the whole device), they did take a photo using a microscope and compared the iPad 3 display with that of an iPad 2. The photo speaks for itself.

I think this is a pretty solid  proof to that the iPad 3 will definitely feature a much more capable display. However, we would like to see this display in action but beggars can’t be choosers after all. But things are looking promising nonetheless.

As far as other specs go it seems that the next iPad will come with a redesigned display and bigger battery and an improved dual-core processor or even a quad core CPU (we’re rooting for the latter of course).

iPad 3 Release Date

As far as the iPad 3 release date goes almost everyone agrees that chances are to be scheduled for March ? But when exactly in March? Well, according to several sources, the iPad 3 will be revealed on March 7 which probably means the tablet will be released in mid-to-late March. We’ve already heard that the official announcement is “just a few weeks away” so the March 7 rumor seems to be pretty accurate (or at least how accurate can an unconfirmed rumor be).

And if we take into account the recent Amazon leak we’re willing to bet that late-March has the most chances of hosting the iPad 3 release date.

What do you guys think of the iPad 3 display comparison ? Are you looking forward to the iPad 3 release date in March ?

Many thanks to MacRumors for bringing us the news about the iPad 3 Retina Display.
