It’s been such a long time since we heard that Motorola is working on a 6+ inch smartphone (6.3 to be more specific), that we almost forgot all about it. Not that there were too many details about it, in the first place.
Back in October, soon after the release of Moto X, we’ve heard rumors that the manufacturer was working on a 6.3-inch smartphone/phablet, dubbed Motorola XPlay and planned for a 2014 release.
The next time we heard about the smartphone’s whereabouts was soon after Lenovo’s aquisition of Motorola, when info surfaced that Lenovo won’t bring major changes to Motorola’s 2014 and 2015 line-up. It was claimed at the time that the next Moto X was already designed and that the company will also release a 6-inch phablet and a smartwatch (which turned out to be the Moto 360), in 2015 (the source was probably referring to the 2015 Fiscal Year, which starts on October 1st). Now we have new info regarding the time-frame the so called Xplay might hit shelves. Curious? Stay with us…
According to the same source who leaked the Moto X, Moto G, and informed us about the fact that Motorola also has a smartwatch in the works (on which also provided some details), Motorola’s 6-inch smartphone will be released during Q3 2014 (between July and September). The name Xplay is not mentioned anymore, nor is the exact display size of the device, so we’re not sure if Motorola scrapped the moniker and/or decided that 6.3 inches were simply too many.
Either way, if this is accurate, more details (both official and leaked) should surface in the coming months.
