Not long ago we’ve talked at length about Motorola’s plans concerning the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Droid Bionic and the Atrix 2, and mainly regarding the fact that whilst the Bionic got a new Q4 timeframe, when it comes to receiving Android 4.0, the Atrix 2 has been flagged with a “further plans coming soon” status.
That being said, we haven’t got our hopes up but, as it turns out, the long-awaited update might be closer to us than expected. Are you excited? More details below.
Motorola Atrix 2 Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4 ICS)
Quite recently, news about a certain soak test getting underway for the Motorola Atrix 2 reached our ears and evidently everyone hoped that this is all about Ice Cream Sandwich. As it turns out, the test build really is Android 4.0.4 – system version 67.21.125 to be more precise.
The great news here is that, judging by how other Motorola soak tests have developed, the final and official roll-out might actually be a few days to two weeks away from us. Hopefully, the testing phase will go smoothly and there will be no major issues that would push-back the update further.
As to what changes we can expect from this meaty update once it goes official, Motorola has been kind enough to share that information and counting amongst the most notable changes is a new user interface with new icons, fonts, colors and animations, a redesigned keyboard, improved camera app, updated Webtop and a few other new features including SMARTACTIONS and Face Unlock.
At this point, an OTA roll-out can happen anytime now so if you’re eager to finally grab Ice Cream Sandwich on your Atrix 2 head down to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Download > Install, and you’ll see whether or not the update is waiting for you.
Overall, we’re quite happy with how things have developed since Punit Soni had a chat with Motorola customers over Google+ and hopefully more good news will follow. Perhaps the Atrix 4G will also follow in shortly.
We’ll keep you posted as soon as the story develops but in the meantime, feel free to drop us a line in case you’ve already received Android 4.0.4 on your device.
Thanks Android Central for the heads-up regarding the Motorola Atrix 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update.
