Motorola Droid Bionic – Ice Cream Sandwich or “Just” an Update ?

by bogdan on February 7, 2012

Remember the Motorola Droid Bionic ? Yes that phone that was announced at the beginning of 2011 (at CES) and has been released sometime in Autumn (September to be exactly). The same Motorola Droid Bionic that has almost been canceled, that has been trough a serious redesign and, as rumor has it, has been released by Verizon only due to contractual obligations (the carrier didn’t think that Bionic will have “staying power”) only to be rendered almost obsolete by the Motorola Droid RAZR a few months later.

Despite this, the Motorola Droid Bionic has managed to draw in a pretty dedicated fan-base that has been wondering just when the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich updte will drop. Well, it seems like the Droid Bionic will soon receive an update. Now could this be Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich or just a maintenance update ? Join us after the break to find out.

Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4 ICS)

It has recently announced that the Motorola Droid Bionic is currently undergoing a “soak test”. Although most people would like to hear that the Motorola Droid Bionic will be getting the Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich update, we don’t think this is the case.

Let’s face it, the Motorola Droid Bionic can’t be the first to receive ICS when you have the Motorola Droid RAZR and the RAZR Maxx (smartphone that’s currently sold-out, by the way). Not that both couldn’t receive the Android 4 update at the same time, but bear in mind that the Motorola Droid Bionic was said to receive a 5.9.902 update and we think this might be the case.

Of course, time will tell whether the Motorola Droid Bionic will get Ice Cream Sandwich or “just” an update, but these are the facts. Should the update bring the 5.9.902 version, the VCast Music app will be removed and the Amazon MP3 app is added, data collection/location details will be enabled, and a Google security patch to block access to change the icons from the Home panel will also be present.

What do you guys think will happen with the Motorola Droid Bionic ? Will the update be ICS or te 5.9.902 version above ?

Many thanks to Droid Life for bringing us the news about the Motorola Droid Bionic update.
