Motorola Droid RAZR Release Date, Specs, Price – Overview

by Catalin on November 12, 2011

The Motorola Droid RAZR has been showing little bits of itself for a while now but we finally received some solid (official) news on the new Motorola device, the one that’s bringing the RAZR brand right back to our doorsteps. Motorola Mobility’s CEO Sanjay Jha just recently announced the upcoming Droid RAZR and he also gave us mere mortals the run down on what exactly the RAZR would be bringing to Verizon Wireless. For those of you keeping an eye out on our page, you might remember the specs of the device which we’ve been getting in the shape of rumors, so let’s get down and dirty with the Motorola Droid RAZR release date, specs and price!

Motorola’s Droid RAZR is coming to us in a shell which measures only 7.1 millimeters in thickness at its thinnest point (that’s 0.28 inches), with the CEO of Motorola Mobility saying that it is, and I quote, “the world’s thinnest smartphone”. I wouldn’t really go so far as the top edge, the housing of the camera does make it a little bit thicker, however, to squeeze that much power into 7.1 mm is quite the achievement nonetheless.

The Motorola Droid RAZR specs are basically the same we’ve been hearing these past few weeks. As such, the Droid RAZR comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM along with 16GB of built-in storage and a 16GB micro-SD card which can obviously be swapped for a 32GB one if need be.

As far as performance goes let’s hope that the leaked Motorola Droid RAZR benchmark doesn’t reflect the way the smartphone will act in real life (the benchmark was probably run on a pre-production model). LATER EDIT: Things got much better.

The device comes also with a 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED Advanced display and a 1780mAh battery (not removable). Not only that, the Motorola Droid RAZR also features waterproofing, Gorilla Glass display and Kevlar – talk about rugged. Despite that, the device still maintains a very clean and stylish look (WE LOVE IT!).

The Motorola Droid RAZR has both the looks as well as the muscles for the job!

Motorola’s Droid RAZR will also have support for the Webtop environment (Lapdock 100 is coming soon), so you’ll also get the option of hooking it up to the recently announced Motorola Lapdock. If we’re here then we might mention that the Droid RAZR will come out of the box with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Sanjay Jha also revealed that the device would be getting Ice Cream Sandwich shortly.

The Droid RAZR is, according to Motorola, the first smartphone with access to Netflix in HD. Feature wise, the smartphone also comes with Smart Actions, something which should help conserve battery life by setting up power-saving actions.

Through Smart Actions the Droid RAZR will clock down the processor when battery is below a certain level, disable GPS reception when you are at home and so on. There’s also support for Motorola’s personal cloud solution with the new MotoCast by allowing you to install software on your PC at home and enable the Droid RAZR to stream documents or media remotely or even upload files back for storage purposes.

Is the Motorola Droid RAZR to your liking?

The Motorola Droid RAZR comes also with some corporate functions like remote-wipe and encryption. We feel that the manufacturer is moving in aggressively into RIM’s territory right there.

Motorola Droid RAZR Release Date

The Motorola Droid RAZR release date ? 11.11.11. Verizon has been accepting pre-orders for the RAZR starting with the 27th of October.

[UPDATE] If you don’t mind waiting for a few more days (probably until Nov 14th) and you are a Costco member then maybe you’ll be interested in the retailer’s Motorola Droid RAZR Mega Deal.

The Motorola Droid RAZR price is set at $300 on-contract with the carrier. The only thing left is to ask you – Are you interested? Because I know I am. Stay tuned!
