An interesting rumor just popped up today. It seems like the Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition tablets will be getting new names on Verizon as the carrier is planning to sell them as the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Droid Xyboard 8.2.
Though people were initially skeptical about the Motorola Droid Xyboard name, it actually has a pretty big chance of being the real deal. As some of you might know, Verizon plans to protect the Xyboard name/brand and has taken the required actions last month by trademarking them. So it looks like both Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 are here to stay.
Verizon Motorola Xoom 2 Known as Motorola Droid Xyboard
This is a strange decision, not that I have anything against making the tablets stick out via their names, but Verizon could definitely have chosen a better name than just the Motorola Droid Xyboard. But that could be just me.
Motorola Xoom 2 Release Date
At the moment all we know about the US launch is that the Motorola Xoom 2 release date will take place on November 30th, according to a leaked document. Motorola has recently announced that both Motorola Xoom 2 tablets will be available in UK and Ireland sometime mid-November without providing an exact date.
We should definitely keep an eye on VZW, as the carrier has also offered a home for the first Motorola Xoom.
As far as the Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 specs go, they will both feature a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, a 5 MP rear camera accompanied by a 1.3 MP front-facing one and the Android Honeybomb 3.2 OS (which will definitely be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich).
