Google’s acquisition of Motorola is getting visible in the software department, as updates start to roll out faster than before for Motorola’s devices. Of course, carriers had their way with almost any software updates by adding some extra content here and there, but that trend is slowly starting to disappear.
Verizon Motorola Xoom 4G LTE Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
The Motorola Xoom tablet can serve as an example, as the Wi-Fi version received Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pretty fast if we look at how much it took Moto to push updates in the past. This left of owners of the 4G LTE version of the Xoom stuck with Ice Cream Sandwich, but we have some clues that the update is pretty close.
A very lucky owner of the Motorola Xoom 4G LTE got his hands on the latest Android 4.1.1 update, and as the About tablet menu indicates in the screenshot above, we are talking about the latest update running on a 4G LTE Xoom.
Verizon and Motorola are keeping mum on this so we don’t really know if this is the final version of the update (which would mean we’re getting really close to a general roll-out) or the Xoom owner was just lucky enough to receive a test version of the update. One way or the other, now we know for sure that the 4G LTE Motorola Xoom is going to receive Android 4.1 in the near future. Not too long ago we posted the improvements Jelly Bean brings to the Wi-Fi Xoom, so you already know what to expect from the update.
Can’t wait any longer for the update ? Fortunately, the aforementioned 4G LTE Xoom user was kind enough to share the update with the XDA community, so you know what you have to do from there. Just remember you are using it at your own risk, as it is not an official release. We will be keeping an eye on Verizon’s Motorola Xoom 4G LTE and let you know when Jelly Bean will roll-out.
Kudos to the folks over at Droid-life for the heads-up on the Motorola Xoom 4G LTE Jelly Bean update.
