Droid Incredible Bows Out, Makes Way for HTC Droid Incredible 2 ?

by Catalin Mengheris on March 18, 2011

The fine people over at Droid-Life.com have recently spotted that the HTC Droid Incredible seems to have sneaked out the back door from droiddoes.com. The device didn’t just disappear from the page itself but it seems to have disappeared completely from Verizon’s main page as well. This would lead one to believe that the company is indeed declaring the phone dead so to speak.

Some rumors are suggesting the fact that the device has become unavailable because of the upcoming launch of the HTC Droid Incredible 2 ( or the HTC Incredible S in Europe ). The device is already on sale in Europe and now it seems that its slowly but surely getting closer to a release date over in the US as well. Considering that some reviewers already got their hands on some of these devices, we might soon see the HTC Droid Incredible 2 replacing the original Droid Incredible on DroidDoes.com as well as in the current Verizon lineup.

Droid Incredible - Where art thou?

The latest rumors are claiming that the HTC Droid Incredible has reached the End of Life, which would mean that the device is now officially being discontinued on the network. But as they say, the king is dead long live the king, let’s take a swift look at what we can expect from the HTC Droid Incredible 2 specs wise:

• 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8655 processor ( the European version comes with the MSM 8255, the diff being 8655 has CMDA frequencies )
• 768 MB of RAM
• 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p recording
• Android 2.2 Froyo with Sense UI
• Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity
• 4 inch S-LCD display ( rumored )

Droid Incredible 2 - closing in on the launch date?

As you can see, not much is really known about the device, but chances are pretty high that it will be similar to its European cousin, so in case you wish to get a rough idea, you can safely check out the specs of the HTC Incredible S. The only notable difference between the two will be the cellular networks they work on, but other than that, nothing different really. Stay tuned for more as the story develops and may the Droid Incredible RIP!

PS – The Droid Incredible 2 ROM was recently leaked which might be putting the device somewhat closer to launch than initially anticipated. We will try to keep you boys and girls updated as this develops.

Thanks Droid Life for the info on HTC Droid Incredible.

Why would they downgrade to a 5MP camera from the 8MP? That doesn’t make any sense. I think you’re wrong.

Agreed, I find it very hard to believe that HTC would make on of their extremely popular phones with a downgraded camera, especially when they are trying really hard to push out 1080p video recording. I’m also very skeptical about the screen size unless they were able to fit a bigger screen onto the same physical size phone being that the major selling points of the incredible was that it fit in people with smaller hands much better than the 4.3″ screen phones. But then again, i’ve also been wrong before as well (Thunderbolt release dates….).

It looks to me as if they deleted the optical mouse to make room for the larger screen size. A smart idea to gain space without having to increase phone size. I use the mouse quite alot, so I will not be upgradeing anytime soon. Also, it is hard to believe that they downgraded the camera, is it perhaps only a downgrade in the UK? As I am a photographer, I use Sony DSLR cameas quite alot, but I also use the Dinc in a pinch. I would not like to see my Megapixels lost to a larger screen that could very well handle it. Amoled is great but will they go with the Super Amoled or downgrade to the S-led as well.
