iPad 2 Release Date Rumors Spreading From Foxconn

by bogdan on December 12, 2010

A lot of buzz has been created lately around the Apple iPad 2 release date, as rumors have begun spreading from inside Foxconn Electronics sources. Officially, the iPad 2 release date was scheduled for April 2011 because its firmware needs/needed further testing.

According to Taiwanese newspaper Digitimes, Foxconn factories in Shenzhen received word that the shipping of the iPad 2 will begin from February 2011 in numbers ranging from 400,000 to 600,000 units.

The new iPad 2 specs are not something to write home about when compared to the current version, except for couple of new additions. The iPad 2 is said to be featuring a USB port, a gyroscope, a camera on the front and on the back and a retina display to name a few.

As indicated by the millions of iPad units already sold, the initial iPad 2 stocks will quickly dwindle as its highly probable that the tablet will follow its predecessor’s trend. The production of the current generation iPad will slowly decrease as the iPad 2 release date gets nearer, the manufacturer estimating that stocks will run dry over the course of March.

A word of caution though before you consider the February iPad 2 release date as set in stone. Although Digitimes is located in Taiwan, no official confirmation was received, neither from Apple or from Foxconn, regarding the iPad 2 release date information provided by the newspaper, so you are advised to take this piece of news with a grain of salt.

What remains to be seen are the final listing prices and actual reviews or comparisons between the two models and we’ll be all set. Let the waiting game begin as the countdown for the iPad 2 release date has already started.

Thanks go out to the Digitimes newspaper for the news regarding the iPad 2 release date.
