On Paper: Motorola Xoom kills BlackBerry PlayBook and Dell Streak 7 – Rumored Release Date: Feb 24

by Vlad Andrici on February 13, 2011

With the rumored Motorola Xoom release date ( February 24th ) getting closer and closer, a lot of people are getting interested in this powerhouse of a tablet and if it wasn’t for the somewhat “out of this world” price ( $800 – rumored ) the Xoom would already be on everybody’s “must buy” list.

So, as things are right now, the Motorola Xoom will have to prove itself in the real world for people to start considering buying the tablet ( don’t forget – the Wi-Fi only Motorola Xoom is surely an alternative that you might want to consider ).

Sadly, aside from a recently leaked Motorola Xoom benchmark we have no idea how Motorola Xoom will perform. What we can do however is to compare the Xoom, on paper, with some of its competitors so we can see, theoretically, who’s got the upper hand…and that’s just what the guys at SkatterTech have done. Read below for more details.

If the last SkatterTech Infographic we talked about pitted Motorola Droid Bionic, the Verizon iPhone 4 and HTC Thunderbolt against each other, this time Motorola Xoom goes head to head with Dell Streak 7, BlackBerry PlayBook and Apple iPad ( aka “The Grandaddy” ).

Before letting you glance over the nice Infographic the guys at SkatterTech have come with, we must say that, while the BlackBerry PlayBook and Dell Streak 7 put up a good fight, the Motorola Xoom simply takes the best parts from each of its competitors and then even throws a little extra on top so…yeah it’s the clear winner of this match-up. But does Motorola’s tablet worth it’s price tag ? I guess that’s for each and every one of you to decide.

It surely would have been interesting to see how the LG G-Slate or the iPad 2 would face the Xoom. But i guess the saying “all in due time” applies perfectly in this case.

Thanks SkatterTech for this nice Motorola Xoom Infographic.

    What a sensationalist headline!

The Xoom HARDLY kills the Playbook. Is it a better-specced device? Sure. But it is also priced outside of the impulse buy/tablet computer range.

The Playbook is a very, very decently device for its rumored price range (around $500). I think a lot of folks are giving the Playbook short shrift because of RIM’s incompetent decisions with the Blackberry… however, the Playbook is a completely different device, and my feeling is they have really gotten a lot of things right this time.

I agree. Everyone I know loves the Xoom, but when they found out the price they were kind of heart broken. Blackberry Playbook looks pretty cool and could possibly support the android market! That’s a win for me.

The reality is this…no one NEEDS a tablet. Overall, tablets, pads, are impulse buying decisions. Typically its going to be the techsavvy that buy it. The Ipad has shown to be a sub-par device when compared to the XOOM, yet there are millions of people running around with the 3G 64Gb version. I like the XOOM. Being that its a BETTER device and more feature rich device than the Pad64, it should be more expensive. For years, Apple has priced its products higher simply because of the mystic and elitist image its marketed itself with…finally another product will do the same. Until the Pad2 comes out, Motorola will have all right to price at $799…it will be the best tablet on the market.

As a business owner and the fact that I have tried every “new” phone to ever come out, I always find myself coming back to the blackberry phones because they blow everything out of the water for business users. I had an Ipad and traded it because it just does not do it for me in my businesses. If the playbook does what the BB phones do in that realm – I will love it. I don’t need 4,000,000 apps, and bar games on my work devices. I just want connectivity, usability, and stability in the device. If I like it and the VPN functions smoothly, I may buy this for all of my workers as well. I am thinking this may be a good slim-client alternative for mobile workers – when paired with the correct server set up.

I am really interested to see how well this playbook can be integrated into a real business or enterprise environment.
