Samsung Galaxy S Ice Cream Sandwich: Who Needs Sammy Anyway ? (Captivate, Vibrant Android 4 ICS)

by Vlad Andrici on February 7, 2012

And he went on and said, “Go forth and update your devices, for updated devices live longer and healthier lives”. That’s something which popped in my head and thought I’d use it for a quick intro to what has been a roller-coaster ride for some time now. A while ago Samsung announced that they won’t be updating the Samsung Galaxy S series to Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich. A short while after, rumors about a small ICS Value Pack for the Samsung Galaxy S emerged. And as soon as those were shot down by Samsung, evidence emerged that, at some point, the manufacturer tinkered with such a pack.

Now however, we bring you some good news – Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate, Vibrant) Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich is here! How and from whom ? Join us after the break.

The Samsung Galaxy S (the European version) along with the Samsung Captivate and the Samsung Vibrant will be getting a taste of the latest version of the Android OS.

After more than 2 months of work, the ICSSGS team has finally set up a running, fully functional and, best of all, vanilla version of Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich for almost the entire Samsung Galaxy S lineup.

The group has been working on bug fixes and working on the ROM for some time and you have everything you need to enjoy the latest version of the OS on your Samsung Galaxy S variant.

The developers said that this Android 4 build for the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Captivate and Samsung Vibrant does not have any modifications. The only modifications made to the build were done only to ensure that the OS will work fine on said devices.

If Samsung disappoints by not bringing the OS to the device that started their Android World Domination, then let’s all give a hand to the folks from Team ICSSGS on XDA forums who set us up with this great build.

If you own one of the previously mentioned devices, check out the full post about the Samsung Galaxy S Android 4 ICS ROM on XDA Developers and then just navigate to the sub-forums dedicated to each model.

If you get your version of Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich running on your Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate, Vibrant) then drop us a line in the comments section and tell us how it works! Stay tuned!
