Samsung Galaxy Note 2 To Look Like This ? Nope, Not Really – Release Date: September (Rumored)

by Mihai Matei on August 20, 2012

Whenever a highly anticipated smartphone is getting closer to its release date everyone is starting to grow more curious about what the device will offer in terms of specs and of course in terms of aesthetics. Hardware-wise, things are a bit more predictable but when it comes to design cues, speculations are not always right on the money. Take the Samsung Galaxy S3 for example. We even published a couple of sighting guides in which we’ve talked a bit about the leaked images depicting Samsung’s upcoming (at that time) device. Needless to say, it turned out that the real handset was very different from what people were expecting.

Its larger counterpart, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is apparently getting the same treatment because more and more mock-up images are being published or leaked, some of which claim to be official. One such mock-up in particular got the attention of many enthusiasts not long ago, so let’s take a look and see what’s what.

The picture you see above was shared anonymously and it first surfaced on the Know Your Mobile tech blog. Alongside the image also came a list of specifications that we’ve heard of on numerous occasions before … you know: quad-core Exynos CPU, a 5.5 inch screen and all that.

More important was the design and probably because the front-panel of the device seems to match the front panel we’ve seen in a leaked image, people have started to believe that this one is the one. Nevertheless, although you might like how this particular device looks like, I’m afraid this is not really it. Let’s go CSI on this one.

First of all, judging by the image we’ve seen before, the top and bottom edges of the front panel fitted on the Note 2 should be slightly curved, but in this new leaked image the Note 2 is lacking this characteristic. However, in all fairness we don’t know how authentic the previously leaked image is either, so we must give them both the benefit of the doubt. Right?

Well, not really, because the latest leaked image is merely a copy of a fan-made Samsung Galaxy Note 2 mock-up. The difference however is that the original artist never claimed this to be the official design, and has mentioned from the very start that it’s just a fan-made render. Take a look for yourself.

So, bottom line is, the image that was circulating around the blogosphere during the weekend claiming that it was the real deal was yet another mock-up. We’re sorry if this news got some Note 2 enthusiasts disappointed, but the good news is that Samsung is planning on revealing the device by the end of the month, so stay tuned and you will eventually get to see how the Note 2 looks like.

Thanks Android Central for the heads-up regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 mock-up.

We’re(consumers) expecting at the least–the inter-operability and syncing capability of these devices in the Galaxy sphere and hopefully merging/integration towards a Samsung universality, meaning, from the G-Notes smartphones/tablet to Samsung digicams->appliances, etc. We’re peering towards the future here folks.
