Samsung Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich and Premium Suite Preview (Android 4 ICS)

by Catalin on March 30, 2012

With the Samsung Galaxy Note launched at AT&T recently, the smartphone slash tablet, grabbed quite a lot of attention. Although Samsung officially promised that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy Note would come out at the end of Q1, the manufacturer had a change of heart recently and announced that Q2 is the time-frame and that ICS will come along with a Premium Suite.

Although the initial rumors of a “Premium Suite” were saying that the software pack is different from ICS, it turns out Android 4 is part of the suite itself. We knew that Samsung was definitely working on the Android 4.0 ICS update for the Galaxy Note, but now we even got to see a few glimpses of it.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update, which had so many twists and turns that we were losing grip, the Note has a straightforward history. The Premium Suite will bring many new improvements to the “phablet” and we cannot wait to see them in action.

The update brings changes to the S Pen and improves on existing functionality. The S Note application sees a major overhaul, now being capable of including video content as well as different styles and sizes for fonts.

The new shape match formula allows more complex notes to be generated as the system will recognize symbols and shapes you draw. The Android 4 ICS version running on the Samsung Galaxy Note comes with Samsung’s very own TouchWiz UI.

Samsung confirmed the update for the international variant of the Galaxy Note. The Galaxy Note with AT&T was not mentioned, but we hope that US users will also be able to get it in a timely fashion.

The international version of the update includes Rovio’s Angry Birds Space pre-loaded. The game will contain 30 levels themed especially for the Samsung Galaxy Note.

If you are the happy owner of a Galaxy Note, then start preparing since the much-anticipated Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich for the Samsung Galaxy Note is well on its way. Until then, drop us a line if you are excited and are there any AT&T Galaxy Note owners out there? Stay tuned for more!
