As some of you might recall, before the Samsung Galaxy S5 has been made official, some rumors were hinting that the smartphone in question will feature a QHD display. This hasn’t come to pass though, and the SGS5 has been released with a more “conservative” Full HD panel, clocking in at 1080 x 1920.
Nevertheless, the story doesn’t end there, as QHD panels are certain to become mainstream sooner or later, and Sammy is sure to jump on the bandwagon. As a matter of fact, there have already been rumors suggesting that the Korean tech giant is planning on launching a QHD spin-off based on the SGS5, dubbed the “Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime“. Today we bring you more news concerning said device, as new bits and pieces of information have recently surfaced.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime – To Be A Limited Series?
According to the Korean media, Samsung was indeed planning on releasing the Galaxy S5 with a QHD panel on-board. Sadly, due to the high production costs of QHD OLED panels, the manufacturer had to adopt a Full HD panel instead.
Now, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is rumored to hit the market in June, so the big question is “how will Samsung deal with the higher production costs this time?” After all, June is pretty close, and we have a feeling that Sammy hasn’t really been able to develop a new strategy for decreasing the costs, in such a short time.
Well, the answer is not as positive as we’d like. According to the sources, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will reportedly be offered in limited quantities.
Clearly, this whole story reminds us of the Galaxy Round – the company’s first smartphone to boast a flexible display. The Round has also been launched in limited quantities, and in South Korea only, mainly for the same reasons: high production costs. The device has been quite a failure from a financial point of view, and we’re fearful that the same might happen with the so called “Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime” as well.
Nevertheless, there’s no way to be sure, and we’re hoping that these latest rumors will not come to pass. We’ll continue to keep an eye out on Samsung, so stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted as soon as the story develops further.
