In case you followed us for some time you might’ve already heard about the LG Optimus LTE 2 and the possibility that it could hit the US market via Verizon, under the name of LG Spectrum 2. Now according to the latest rumors, the LG Spectrum 2 isn’t the only “sequel” expected to hit Big Red’s shelves as the Samsung Stratosphere might receive its own refresh as well, sequel that should be known as the Stratosphere 2.
The latest rumors came in the form of a couple of leaked Verizon Equipment Guide shots and although they are not revealing everything there is to these smartphones, it’s enough to give us a general idea of what to expect.
Samsung Stratosphere 2
The Stratosphere 2 is evidently going to rock a physical QWERTY keyboard much as its predecessor, but unlike T-Mobile’s Galaxy S Blaze Q, the Stratosphere 2 doesn’t seem to offer specs similar to the Galaxy S3. Instead, judging by what we can tell from the leaks, Verizon’s QWERTY-ed device will come with a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen and 4G LTE capabilities, alongside a similar form factor as before.
We can also safely assume that the device in question will carry a Snapdragon S4 CPU, since Verizon seems pretty much committed to stick with the S4 + LTE formula. We’ve noticed this pattern in other upcoming devices, including the Motorola DROID RAZR M (a.k.a. XT907).
LG Spectrum 2 at Verizon
Despite the fact that not much information has been leaked regarding Samsung’s Stratosphere 2, the LG Optimus LTE 2 aka the Spectrum 2 appeared on our radars before and we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from it spec-wise.
A 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor will keep things running, alongside 1 GB of RAM (although initially we’ve hoped for 2 GB of RAM, same as the Korean Optimus LTE 2), 16 GB of internal storage, an 8 MP sensor on the back, NFC capabilities and Android 4.0.4 out of the box.
When exactly will these two sequel smartphones hit the market remains to be seen, but if they’ll be launched in the same timeslot as their predecessors then the Stratosphere 2 should hit the market by the end of the year, whereas the Spectrum 2 could get an early 2013 launch.
Thanks Droid Life for the heads-up regarding the Samsung Stratosphere 2 and LG Spectrum 2.
