Following a series of leaks that gave us the opportunity to view the Huawei Ascend P7 from all angles, the smartphone in question went live in May and enjoyed its success ever since. Nevertheless, Huawei seems to want and pump more life into the device, as a new spin-off boasting sapphire display appears to slowly but surely make its way towards the finish line.

As some of you might be able to recall, roughly three weeks ago Huawei’s Device Chairman and Consumer BG CEO Yu Chengdong told a reporter that the company’s plans are to release “shocking products”. At that moment Yu Chengdong pulled a Huawei Ascend P7 with sapphire display from his pocket, adding more weight to his statement. Three weeks later and Yu Chengdong has now reconfirmed that the smartphone in question will indeed sport a sapphire display. More details right after the break.

Earlier yesterday, Yu Chengdong shared the image above via his Weibo account, saying that the company will release the Huawei Ascend P7 in a more exclusive flavor boasting sapphire display. The CEO hasn’t revealed any details about pricing, but chances are that the sapphire screen model will set us back more than the regular variant. It’s also interesting to note that, if this version of the Huawei Ascend P7 will be unveiled at IFA in Berlin, it might become the first smartphone to feature sapphire display, excluding niche devices like the luxurious Vertu Ti or the rugged Kyocera Brigadier.

As for the smartphone’s hardware specifications, the current Ascend P7 model sports a 5-inch Full HD display, a HiSilicon Kirin 910T SoC with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and a 13 MP main camera mated with a generous 8 MP front-facing sensor. Aside from the presence of sapphire glass, we suspect that the hardware specifications will remain unchanged on the refreshed model.

Would anyone be interested in buying the Huawei Ascend P7 with sapphire glass?
