Sony did not make the impact they were hoping for with their Android tablets. The Sony Tablet S and Tablet P had a modest start, but the company is still showing them some love. The manufacturer has recently announced the Sony Tablet P Ice Cream Sandwich update release date so, if interested, join us after the break.
Sony Tablet P Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4 ICS)
A while ago we found out that the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P Android 4 ICS update was scheduled for April. As chance has it, the Sony Tablet S did receive its share of Android goodness but that was quickly eclipsed by the delays suffered by the Tablet P Android 4 update.
Sony stepped forward and announced that the Tablet P ICS update is coming out starting with May 24. The company’s press release focused on the release of the update for Japan, but knowing that they released the update to Android 4.0 for the Tablet S on the same day everywhere, we could see the update roll out internationally on May 24 for the Tablet P as well.
The update will bring a number of nice additions. You will be pleasantly surprised by the addition of “Small Apps” which allow you to open up a miniature browser window, remote control or even a calculator. These small apps can open on top of applications that allow this, like the browser for example. You can also switch between the mobile and desktop version of a web page using a single button.
In the lock screen department, the Tablet P ICS update brings you the ability to activate the camera straight from the lock screen.
All of these changes (and obviously, the goodness of a fresh new operating system) will come on May 24 for the Sony Tablet P. If you wondered when will Ice Cream Sandwich land on your Sony Tablet P, this is the date to look for! Stay tuned and let us know when you get the update!
