We’ve taken an interest in the Sony Xperia Ion ever since it was announced in January, when we’ve also talked about its specs and expected release date at great length in one of our articles.
Initial reports also indicated that the Sony Xperia Ion will make its way towards AT&T during the second quarter of this year, despite some rumors that were indicating a possible Q1 launch of the device, alongside the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket HD (canceled in the meantime by AT&T, probably in order to make room for Samsung Galaxy S3).
We’ve also reported that the worldwide Xperia Ion release date is scheduled for this summer, and we wondered how and if this will affect the AT&T launch whatsoever.

Fortunately, for those waiting eagerly for news concerning the device, a new rumor surfaced regarding the Ion release date, confirming the old supposed Q2 launch at AT&T.
The rumor came in the form of a banner ad sighted in Gmail by DroidMatters. The banner stated that the Sony Xperia Ion will be available for purchase exclusively at AT&T starting June.
That’s quite interesting to be honest, because as you may have already learned, allegedly Verizon called dibs on the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is also expected to hit the US market in June.
Keeping in mind that the Xperia Ion is Sony’s attempt to establish a strong foothold on the US mobile market, we’re really curious on how the device will fare against the highly anticipated Galaxy S3. The specs sound great, right up Galaxy S3′s alley.
