Sony has been a bit behind when it came to delivering updates, and even the company’s new additions have been running an already outdated Android OS.
The previous Xperia line has been powered by Gingerbread in a world where Ice Cream Sandwich was already the new standard, and the newer line-up (of which the Xperia T is a member of) has also been launched with Ice Cream Sandwich alongside a promise that Jelly Bean will arrive after launch.
Sony Xperia S Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)
Back in October, Sony has confirmed that Jelly Bean will eventually arrive on the Xperia S and now it seems that the manufacturer has taken the process one step further. According to Sony Mobile UK, details about the Android 4.1 update, such as when exactly it will arrive and what goodies it will bring, will be revealed by “mid-December”.
Remember, this is an announcement concerning a future announcement, so in case you’re interested in the time-frame when the Android 4.1 update should land on the Xperia S, you should be interested in finding out that mid-Q1 2013 has been mentioned before by Sony.
That’s pretty much the same time slot in which the Sony Xperia T, TX and Xperia V are expected to make the jump to Jelly Bean, so it appears that Sony intends on releasing the update on a multitude of gadgets at once (give or take a few weeks perhaps).
So, is anyone out there excited about the inevitable arrival of Android 4.1 on the Sony ex-flagship device? Drop us a line and let us know. In the meantime we’ll continue to keep an eye out on the manufacturer so stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted as soon as the story develops.
Thanks Android Central for the heads-up regarding the Sony Xperia S Jelly Bean update.
