Alleged Sony Xperia Z2 / Sirius Back Covers Get Caught On Camera

by Mihai Matei on January 17, 2014

Just like the majority of smartphone manufacturers, Sony is now making the necessary preparations to launch its early 2014 line-up. During CES we had the opportunity to learn about the impressive Xperia Z1 Compact, as well as the Xperia T2 Ultra. But, that’s not everything Sony has in store for us, and it appears that the Japanese manufacturer has more smartphones in the oven.

One handset in particular is the newly rumored Xperia Z2 / Sirius. We barely know anything about this device, but it looks like its back cover has already been leaked. Check out the image below and join us after the break for a few more details.

Sony Xperia Z2 / Sirius Back Cover Caught on Camera?

The image you see above has been recently posted by Chinese sources, and if it’s legit, then what we’re looking at is a photo depicting the back cover of the Xperia Z2, shared by someone claiming to be working in Sony’s R&D department.

Alongside the photo came a short list of specifications: supposedly the smartphone’s display will measure 5.3 inches, it will boast a 23 MP main camera, and it will arrive in five colors.

It’s also interesting to note that the back panel doesn’t seem to be covered in glass, as most high-end Sony Xperia smartphones are nowadays. Instead, we get this matte / metallic (or maybe carbon fiber?) finish.

Last but definitely not least, rumors also indicate that the device might be unveiled sometime in February. This could make the Z2 a strong Samsung Galaxy S5 competitor. Nevertheless, as we always do, we advise you to take these rumors with a pinch of salt. If the Xperia Z2 / Sirius is truly on its way, then more leaks are going to surface soon, so stay tuned.
