If you’ve been checking out our page you might’ve read that the Xperia series is getting Android 4.0. Our first guesses, based on rumors of course, were that the Xperia lineup will get updated to Android 4.0 ICS sometime during the first quarter of this year. Later on we’ve gotten the chance to check out the alpha ROM for the Xperia Arc S, Neo V and Ray and just recently we’ve found out that March/ April / May seems to be time frame for the Xperia Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich update (hit the link to see when different devices will get updated).
So how does the update for one of the most interesting smartphones ever released by Sony Ericsson ? … yeah i’m talking about the Xperia Play Android 4 ICS update. Join us after the break for the latest developments.
Xperia Play Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich
Just recently the fine folks over at Pocketnow reported on some new developments over at the XDA Developers forum. That’s the first place you should check out to get your fix for Android OS updates and custom ROMs!
It seems that one of the more respectable members of the forum has gotten his hands on a leaked Sony Xperia Play Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM. Note that this is again an Alpha Android 4.0 ICS build for the Sony Xperia Play, so there are still some things that don’t work properly.
The main issues which seem to be still there are in regards to the camera not functioning, problems saving GSM Data APN as well as some applications which require root access and are not getting it. However, this is showing that there’s been quite some progress made for the Sony Xperia Play Android 4 update and, with this in mind, we can be confident that this is most likely the situation for the rest of the Xperia lineup.
Seeing as Sony is planning on pushing Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich for both their Xperia Ion as well as their Xperia S, we can only conclude that they are well on their way with the updates for their current devices as well.
For the time being, you can check out the source of this news at XDA (along with install instructions if you wish to give this leaked ROM a try) and drop us a line if you’ve gotten the chance to play around with it. Until next time, stay tuned!
