ZTE Grand S II: The First Smartphone To Feature 4GB of RAM?

by Mihai Matei on March 28, 2014

We’ve started this year in full force, with numerous smartphone manufacturers showcasing their latest devices during CES, in January. After that, the Mobile World Congress opened its doors and a new wave of handsets has been revealed (including the Samsung Galaxy S5), but not every smartphone that has been announced at CES has made it on the market just yet, so the excitement surrounding MWC hasn’t made us forget all about these gadgets that have been made official back in January.

ZTE is one of the Chinese companies that have been present at CES, and the Grand S II is one of the manufacturer’s upcoming top-range handsets that have been unveiled at that time. At the time of its announcement, the handset boasted a Snapdragon 800 (or 801, given the renaming of the SoC) quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. Interestingly enough, the smartphone has now made it through the Chinese equivalent of the FCC, and not all the specs match what we’ve seen earlier at CES. Check out the details below.

ZTE Grand S II to Pack 4 GB of RAM?

The ZTE Grand S II has recently been certified in China, making way for a handful of pictures and spec sheets to hit the web. As seen above, one of the more relevant spec sheets suggest that the Grand S II will actually pack 4 GB of RAM instead of 2 GB, so we’re thinking that ZTE might’ve decided to make a few upgrades before the smartphone’s launch.

If the data is correct, then the Grand S II will go down in history as the first smartphone to pack 4 GB of RAM. 4 GB of physical memory is also the maximum limit accepted by a 32-bit processor, so unless a 64-bit mobile CPU goes mainstream, then we won’t see the Grand S II being surpassed by a rival anytime soon – at least not in terms of RAM.

Aside from that, the handset features a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920, a 13 MP camera mated with a 2 MP front-facing sensor, a 3,000 mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Any thoughts concerning the idea that the ZTE Grand S II could become the first smartphone to feature 4 GB of RAM? Share them below.
