During a speech at the IGDA Leadership Forum, THQ’s Danny Bilson has revealed that Darksiders 2 will feature another main character ( another Horseman ) and will take place during the events of the first game – “When we do the Darksiders sequel, it’ll be a different character and take place simultaneously to the other story“.
Danny also said that developer Vigil Games has added some new mechanics and features into Darksiders 2, features that will differentiate it a lot from the first game.
“There’s only one apocalypse — I couldn’t very well have four different apocalypses, one for each rider. It has some new mechanics and some very robust features that differentiate it a lot and grow it from the first game because you have to build on the first one, you can’t repeat it. I think that’s very important in franchise-building“.

Darksiders has been pretty well received by critics ( the game has an 84 PC, an 82 PS3 and an 83 Xbox 360 Metacritic score ) and gamers alike ( Darksiders sold over 1.2 million copies in its first month, surpassing his direct competitor at the time, Platinum Games’ Bayonetta ).
Darksiders 2 has been confirmed during E3 2010. It was no other than Danny Bilson who said that “it’s two years out from now“, so we wouldn’t expect the game to be released sooner than the summer of 2012.
