How To: Remove Zentom System Guard Virus / Malware ( Removal Guide )

by Mihai Matei on July 20, 2011

Zentom System Guard is a rogue program that infects your computer and starts displaying fake message in order to scare the user into giving away personal and credit card information. Zentom System Guard usually infects your computer through web sites that contain an advert pretending to be an online anti-malware scanner. The fake anti-malware will infect your computer with a Trojan that once on your computer it will display a fake Windows Automatic Update pop-up, suggesting that you need to install a System Security Pack Upgrade for Windows. This update however is nothing more than Zentom System Guard itself.

Once on your computer, Zentom System Guard will perform a fake scan after which the rogue will state that there are numerous infections threatening your machine. Zentom System Guard will then prompt you to buy the full version of the program in order to get rid of these threats. Do not let yourself scared into purchasing this so called full version because it’s just a fake.

Zentom System Guard Removal Guide

In order to get rid of Zentom System Guard you will need to download RKill and Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM). Zentom System Guard might prevent you to access the internet from the infected machine and if this is the case you will need to download these two programs on a working computer and transfer them via CD/DVD or any other portable ways/devices.

  • Run RKill on the infected machine so that every process related to Zentom System Guard will be killed. The RKill scanning process might take a while so please be patient. Also keep in mind that Zentom System Guard might start displaying fake warning messages regarding RKill, suggesting that this program is a threat to your computer. If this is the case, please ignore these messages as they are just a way for Zentom System Guard to preserve itself. If Zentom System Guard will keep preventing you from successfully using RKill then go to the RKill download link provided above and download a renamed copy of RKill such as iExplore.exe. Keep in mind NOT to reboot your computer after this step is completed.
  • Install Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware while making sure that the buttons labeled Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware are checked. After the installation process is complete you might be prompted to reboot your computer. Please do so.
  • After the reboot MBAM will automatically run at Windows Startup, displaying the MBAM main window. From there go to the Scanner tab, check the Perform Full Scan option and click on the Scan button below. This process might take a while so please be patient.
  • After the scanning process is complete you will be presented the full list of threats found on your computer. Make sure all of these threats are checked and then press the Remove Selected button below. After MBAM finishes getting rid of all the threats you might be prompted to reboot your computer. Please restart your machine if this is the case.

If you’ve followed these steps accordingly your computer should now be clean. However it’s highly recommended that you follow this Secunia PSI guide in order to determine whether or not your system is safe from future threats.
