March iPad 3 Release Date To Bring Yet Another Dual Core Tablet ?

by Vlad Andrici on February 12, 2012

To say that Apple’s iPad 3 is highly anticipated would be an understatement. As it is the case with Apple’s devices (be it iPhones or iPads) the months leading to their release date are filled with large amounts of rumors, and iPad 3 makes no exception. We’ve seen so many iPad 3 release date and specs rumors (some of them really wacky but also some that appear rooted in reality) that’s hard to even keep track of them.

Even though these last few days everybody has been talking about the leaked iPad 3 casing photo that seems to indicate that the iPad 3 will come with a redesigned display, bigger battery and different camera, there are other, lesser known, rumors out there. And I’m sorry to say that one of them will bring many down to earth. We’ll get at it in a minute but first let’s see what we know so far about the iPad 3 release date (yeah, i know many of you are mainly interested in this aspect).

iPad 3 Release Date

The general consensus is that the iPad 3 will hit stores sometime at the end of March. This idea has been solidified recently by some interesting Amazon leaks that seem to point towards a March 29th release date.

Another recent rumor, coming from Japan, claims that the iPad 3 launch is only a few weeks away. It makes sense that if Apple will announce the tablet in February, the iPad 3 will be available for purchase sometime in March.

iPad 3 + Quad Core = Love ? Not So Much - Release Date: End of March (Rumored)

iPad 3 + Quad Core = Love ? Not So Much - Release Date: End of March (Rumored)

Unfortunately, although we have hoped to see the Apple iPad 3 coming with a quad-core processor, that part seems to be out, at least according to the guys at The Verge.

It’s not all bad though, as the good news is that, according to the same source, the A6 processor will come with a more powerful GPU, though we don’t know if that would please the fans should the quad-core processor really kick the bucket.

It’s also rumored that iPad 3 will come with a display who’s resolution will clock in at 2048 x 1536 (“a true iPad Retina Display”).

The iPad 3 release date won’t happen this month, but judging from Apple’s history of releases, the end of March wouldn’t be that far of a stretch, considering the fact that the iPad 2 got released in the same month, last year.

We don’t know whether the iPad 3 will sport a quad-core processor or not but we really hope this rumor won’t turn out to be true.

What do you guys think ? Is the iPad 3 quad core CPU idea feasible or not ?
