First Sony Xperia Z3 Rumors: Metal Frame, PVD Coating, Snapdragon 805 and More
The Sony Xperia Z1 barely got its time under the spotlight when rumors concerning the Xperia Z2 first started floating around shortly after the smartphone’s release. Sure enough, the Z2 is now official and has barely made it on the market, so we weren’t expecting to discuss anything concerning a possible Sony Xperia Z3 anytime soon.
Nevertheless, the mobile market seems to evolve at an accelerated rate, and the majority of big time players are putting in a lot of effort in order to pump out new smartphones faster than ever before. With that in mind, the fact that we’re now talking about the Xperia Z3 shouldn’t sound too far-fetched. In fact, the first rumors regarding said device have just surfaced on the blogosphere and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share this information with our readers. Check out the full story below.
First Sony Xperia Z3 Rumors Are Here
First of all, let’s deal with the images above. According to the source, what we’re looking at is the metal frame of the Xperia Z3. Indeed, based on these fresh rumors, the Z3 will adopt a metal frame, and it will also be very thin. The body itself will allegedly be treated with a PVD coating, which will give the smartphone a mirror stainless steel look, similar to the Nokia 8800.
For those of you who are unaware of this, the advantages of using PVD coating as opposed to more conventional paint or electroplating are many. The list includes a more corrosion resistant surface, higher impact resistance and excellent resilience to scratches. Applying a PVD coating is more environmentally friendly as well, but the manufacturing process is a bit trickier too.
But getting back to the matter at hand, the source has also included details regarding the smartphone’s hardware specifications, and according to these reports, the Sony Xperia Z3 will be launched with a 1080p display as opposed to a QHD one. The handset is said to pack a Snapdragon 805 SoC, 3 GB of RAM and a 20.7 MP main camera. The SD 805 chipset features four Krait 450 cores running at up to 2.7 GHz, and an Adreno 420 graphics chip running at 500 MHz.
Last but not least, we should mention that the source has also suggested the possibility that the Sony Xperia Z3 will be announced sometime in August. This will make it Sony’s flagship phone for the second half of 2014, and it will make it a direct competitor to the rumored HTC One M8 Prime, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, the LG G3 etc, even though all the aforementioned devices will most likely pack a QHD panel.
