Interested in maybe buying the iRulu BL20 1080P HD 3D Projector? But unsure how to judge the quality? Is it worth the money? Is this the best option After putting it through a series of tests, we will cover what we learned about the model in the following review.
For people buying a projector for the first time, who may not have a lot of experience buying this type of technology, we do want to mention one possible point of misunderstanding when reading what this projector provides.
Everyone wants high-definition 1080p resolution. Liked with many cheaper projectors, like the iRulu BL20, if you do not read further into the specifications, the descriptions or titles can be misleading.
Is the iRulu BL20 projector really 1080p high definition resolution? When you read the description 1080p will be present. However, what this really means is the projector can accept a signal from a 1080p external device. This will allow you to connect and play content from a 1080p Blu-Ray player, DVD, HDTV, etc. However, the picture resolution will be played down to the native resolution of the projector. Meaning what you will actually see projected onto the screen or wall.
Native resolution of the iRulu BL20 projector
When buying a projector if resolution level is a big factor in your purchasing decision you should always make sure to look for the words “native resolution” in order to know the true resolution of the projector.
This information is usually found on the sales page or you may have to search the specifications sheet to find this information.
As we mentioned above this can be confusing because you may see 1080p resolution somewhere in the description and but this may only means it is able supports content from a 1080p external device.
The native resolution of the iRulu BL20 is 800×480.
Compared to other projectors in its price range this level of resolution is fairly standard. Below you will find a list f other similarly priced projectors along with their native resolution.

There are many choices in this price range above is only a short list of possibilities.
How big of an image can it project?
The iRulu BL20 can projector view able an image as small as 32 inches or as large as 200 inches.
In our testing, in order to project a 32-inch image the projector sat 1.2 meters or about 4 feet away from the screen.
The 200-inch image was produced by setting the projector 6 meters or about 19.5 feet away from the screen.
With that said, 32 to 200-inch is a range f possibilities. For the best possible image in your room environment you will want to test it at different distances from the screen.
Colors vivid and lifelike? What you can expect.
The iRulu BL20 Projector runs on LCD technology. Compared to DLP technology, we do prefer LCD technology for colors.
But let us take a step back before we lead anyone to believe these colors are amazing.
The “chip” or whatever it is inside running the show is capable of producing 16,700 different colors. This is good in its price range but much lower compared to more expensive projectors.
What about Contrast levels
Contrast is sort of related to how colors appear on the screen. It is the difference between how the deepest and darkest colors appear next to the lightest colors, like white or pink.
A very high contrast rating will make “colors pop!” off the screen. Lower contrast ratings will provide duller viewing experience.
The contrast ratio of the iRulu BL20 Projector is 2000:1. Basically, this means black will appear 2000 times darker than white in projected images
Is 2,000:1 a good rating? Well, it’s not the best out there.
There is much better you can get but this will require spending more money on a more expensive model. For the price, the contrast of the iRulu BL20 compares decently to other models.
Brightness is a strength
Probably the biggest strength of the iRulu BL20 projector is found in the level of brightness it provides. It provides 2600 lumens of brightness, comparable to what many more expensive projectors provide.
This level of brightness, you will not need to use it in a completely dark room in order to view the image.
